Permanent ExhibitionCap San Diego:Permanent ExhibitionLocated in Hatches 4 and 5 you find the permanent exhibition "A Suitcase Filled with Hope." From 1834 to 1920 five million people from all over Europe left their homes via Hamburg. Whether for social or economical reasons, or because of religious and/or political persecution, they all began here in Hamburg a new chapter of their lives. "A Suitcase Filled with Hope" takes the visitor along on a tour into the time of journeys from Europe to America: beginning with the worries and hardships the peoples of Europe suffered, further onto the procedures to be undertaken before they were allowed passage and finally to their journey on board and their arrival in the long-desired land of hope. A lively picture of this time is illustrated by presentation boards, tape and video recordings, letters and comics. This is not the only exhibition on board of the Cap San Diego; others are shown during the summer months.
